Fiction writer Francis was famous in the 1970s as the first woman to complete a solo voyage sailing across the Atlantic.
‘It was a little difficult setting up my light in the tiny cabin. We were able to run a 220-volt line in from the pier for my one light’, said Schwartz. ‘She had studied ballet, and was in the same class as Ann Jenner. About to be married, her mind was elsewhere than concentrating on the activity at hand.’
