Dr. Avraham Harman (1915-1992)

His office, Hebrew University of Jerusalem
18 April 1976

Harman was born in London and immigrated to Mandate Palestine in 1938.  Following Israeli independence, he was the ambassador to the United States (1959-68) and president of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1968-83).

Schwartz photographed Harman in two positions – one in front of his books and the other in front of the portrait of Einstein. There is little doubt that the most effective solution is the one in which the sitter unwittingly mimics the gestures of his presumed hero.
