Dr. Henry Kissinger (b. 1923)

At home, Georgetown, Washington D.C.
2 February 1978

A diplomat, political scientist and businessman, Kissinger was born in Bavaria to a German-Jewish family. In 1938 his family moved to New York City where he became an American citizen. He was Secretary of State of the U.S. from 1973 to 1977.

‘I like to take enough pictures to be sure I have a good one’, said Schwartz, ‘I’m a sort of a belt and suspenders man.’ Kissinger took it to mean that for the next sitting he should wear both. He showed the photographer that he only wore belts.
