Jakobovits completed his higher education in England and at the young age of 27, was appointed Chief Rabbi in Ireland.  From 1967 to 1991 he was the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth.

His study was lined with books on both walls and ‘he spends a great deal of time looking at these books and will quote from the Talmud to give examples and analogies for various thoughts.’
