John Curry (1949-1994)
Schwartz’s suite, The Berkeley Hotel, London

A champion figure skater, Curry combined ballet and modern dance influences bringing men’s figure skating to a new level of presentation and artistic achievement. He was interested originally in dance, though his parents did not approve of such an activity for a boy.
In 1976, he won gold medals at the European Championships, at the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck and at the World Championships in Göteborg.
‘We discussed carrying our equipment’, recalled Schwartz. ‘Just as I don’t trust anyone to carry my cameras, so he never trusts his skates to a porter.’
