Yehudi Menuhin, Baron Menuhin (1916-1999)

At home, Hampstead, London
14 May 1976

Born in New York to Russian Jewish parents, violinist, Yehudi Menuhin, gave his first performance at the age of seven. His illustrious career included numerous recordings and performances with some of the last century's greatest conductors.

Schwartz photographed the musician playing the violin, seated in a lotus yoga position, without shoes, as this was the most comfortable position for him. The photographer opted for a profile light from the back, dramatically highlighting the violinist’s hands and face.
